Proceedings preface (2nd edition)
The Second Scandinavian Research Conference on Geographical
Information Systems was held in Hønefoss, Norway, on October 19-21
1988. The conference was the second in a series of Scandinavian
conferences; the first one was held in Linköping, Sweden in 1985, and
the third one will be held in Denmark in 1990. The use of GIS has
grown rapidly during the last two to three years in Scandinavia, but
the number of institutions carrying out research in this field is
still relatively small. However, the breadth of papers which were
presented to this conference indicates that GIS is playing an
important role in many aspects of planning and management in the
Scandinavian countries.
We hope that this conference and future ones in this series will
inspire further research and development in Geographical Information
Systems.
