Proceedings preface (2nd edition)
The Third Scandinavian Research Conference on Geographical Information Systems
was held in Elsinore, Denmark, on November 14-16, 1990. The conference was the
third in a series of arrangements, the former were held in Linkøping,
Sweden, in 1985 and in Hønefoss, Norway, in 1988.
The third conference focused upon Scandinavian projects that involve the
development of Geographical Information Systems (GIS) or Land Information Systems
(LIS). In the invitation it was stressed that the scope was to present the
'state of the art' in relation to ongoing research on specific
GIS/LIS applications within schools of higher education, governmental departments,
institutes, private companies etc. and not to act as a promotional forum to the
the vendors of various commercially available systems. It is our hope that the
proceedings from this conference will, therefore be different from the many
world-wide sessions on GIS.
